Have you ever sat down and compared a color image to the same image in black & white? Yeah, probably not unless it was one of those “spot the difference” images OR unless you’ve been to my studio.
One of the things we do when going through your boudoir images is ditch the ones you hate and never want to see again (typically maybe 1-3) and then we look at your images in color and then in black & white. Why? Because of a few things – emotions, details, distractions, timelessness, etc.
When you change a color photo to black and white, you (obviously) remove all of the color. It allows you (the viewer) to fully focus on the subject’s expressions, body language, emotions, etc. without the distraction of all of the different and bright colors. You can focus on the subject’s body’s curves, body lines, feature details, skin texture, how the lace of the lingerie lays on the skin, how the leather and latex hug and enhance the subject’s body, how the water makes the material cling to the skin, and so much more. Removing the distraction of colors truly allows you to focus on all of these aspects.
Once you remove the color you remove a lot of visual “noise”; this allows the photographer to play with intense and heavy lighting techniques. The high contrast can give images a more dramatic and bold feel to show empowerment and strength. The flip side can also be true – using different lighting techniques you can also create a soft and romantic mood, using the exact same posing.
When we go through this process together, looking at each of your images in both color and black and white, you get to experience how each version tells a slightly different story. It’s not just about choosing what looks the best—it’s about finding the style and emotion that truly resonates with you. Each of your images is a work of art, and seeing them in black and white brings out the powerful subtleties that might get missed otherwise.
At lastphoto.KC, we believe every image deserves careful attention to bring out your unique beauty, strength, and sensuality. Black and white photography can add layers to your images, creating depth and emotion that can be captivating in a completely different way than color.
So when we sit down to view your photos, prepare to see a version of yourself that’s a side you haven’t seen before – it’s raw, timeless, and breathtaking. Black and white boudoir photography isn’t just an editing option or a filter—it’s an art form that truly transforms the emotions of the subject and the viewer. Together, we’ll choose the images that reflect not just what you see, but how you feel. And I promise you, the result will be unforgettable and unbelievingly empowering.
