Why the Most Beautiful Version of You is the One You Already Know

Sharing is caring

When I first started my own journey with photography (specifically with my own boudoir session) I did exactly what everyone told me to do: I sat in the chair and had the full professional hair and makeup experience.

And don’t get me wrong… I looked hot. The artist was talented, the contour was perfect, the lashes were long, the lip was spicy.

But when I look back at those photos today, there’s a disconnect. I see stunning images, but I don’t necessarily see me. It feels a bit like looking at a beautiful stranger or a character playing dress-up. It was a version of myself I couldn’t recreate on my own, and because of that, those images feel tied to a specific appointment rather than my actual life.

There is Power in Recognizing Yourself

Fast forward to my most recent sessions. This time, I took the reins. I did my own hair and makeup. I kept it more “date night” than “wedding day.” I rocked my natural hair texture and applied the amount of makeup that makes me feel like the best version of myself on a Friday night.

The result? I still looked hot. But more importantly? I actually recognize that girl. When I look at those images, I see the woman who looks back at me in the mirror every morning. I see the woman my partner sees across the dinner table. There is a profound sense of confidence that comes from knowing the beauty in the frame is 100% “at-home” authentic.

Why I Invite You to Do the Same

I want that same feeling for you. I want you to receive your gallery and feel an immediate, visceral connection to the person in the photos. Here is why we focus on a “you-led” beauty approach:

  • Authenticity Over Perfection: A makeup artist sees a canvas; you see a history. By doing your own styling, you highlight the parts of yourself you love most, rather than following a standard “industry” look.
  • Confidence in Capability: There is something incredibly empowering about realizing you don’t need a team of professionals to look breathtaking. You are the magic.
  • Timeless Connection: Years from now, I want you to look at your photos and remember exactly how you felt… not how long you sat in a makeup chair. I want you to see you, not a “Barbie” version of yourself.

Your session is about celebrating your skin, your smile, and your spirit. Whether you come with a bold red lip or a fresh, natural face, the goal is the same: to capture the woman you are proud to be every single day.

I don’t want to capture a version of you that only exists for two hours in a studio. I want to capture the version of you that you take home with you.
